About Me

Dr. Joel Lall-Trail grew up overseas, living in many different countries in Asia. This upbringing created a love and respect in him for people from all backgrounds. He returned to the U.S. for higher education and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Houghton College, Magna Cum Laude. He went on from there to earn his medical degree at the State University of New York at Syracuse. He completed both an internship and three year residency in Ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. It was here that he was awarded best teaching resident by his peers and finished his last year as Chief resident.

During his second year in training, he discovered his love of working with children and he knew he needed to specialize in order to give them the best care. This led him to pursue a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at one of the top training centers in the U.S, Storm Eye Center at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, South Carolina. Seeing the need for a Pediatric Ophthalmologist in the Hampton Roads area, he joined VOA in 2000 and enjoys a busy practice. Dr. Lall-Trail has extensive experience treating premature children and childhood eye diseases. He also treats patients of all ages for eye misalignment problems and double vision. For more than a decade, Dr. Lall-Trail has been listed as a Hampton Roads Top Doctor.

Dr. Lall-Trail is married to his high school sweetheart, Kiran, and has two teenagers. He loves to cook and especially loves to barbeque. He also enjoys traveling, especially to the underprivileged areas of the world, where he can provide eye care.
